You Can’t Wait

Waiting

I call it the “Gift of Death.”

Back in May of 2009 I started my journey with chemo. You see – I was diagnosed late March 2009 with cancer. After they check surgical margins and such – they news wasn’t what I had hoped. It was scary. I didn’t tell anyone. No one. Except Jesse – my boyfriend. But I really didn’t tell him all the details either. I knew he’d see me going thru this journey and we lived together.

What I learned about this journey all too well is that tomorrow is never guaranteed. Because of that lesson, I started to make other choices in my life. Those choices have included me in the top of that list. Me – and my happiness. Most people wonder how I can deal with stress and other situations so well. I call it the gift of death. Well – almost death. When you realize your own mortality at a more practical level versus the conceptual level – it’s a whole different story. Your value system changes. For some the change is great and for some it isn’t. I got to that point where I could choose and decide to be happy on that journey.

I’m sure many of you have seen the AGT performance, seen quotes all over the social media world, etc from the performance below from Nightbirde. But if you haven’t, please watch below:

“You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy”

Nightbirde

What will it take for you, without going as far as some have had to go, to make a different choice? I have learned thru many different experiences that while you can’t always choose your situation, you can indeed choose your attitude about that situation.

Stop waiting, start living.
